On 11th March 2020, Prita Jha was invited by Gender Resource Centre and GVK EMRI services to conduct legal training sessions on the POCSO Act, Juvenile Justice Act and Trafficking Law for counsellors of the 181 Women’s Emergency Helpline, at their Headquarters in Naroda, Ahmedabad.
These intensive sessions were aimed at new joinees and refreshers alike, so that they can be well-equipped with awareness and knowledge on the current laws and the know-how of the necessary legal and judicial procedures when counselling and facilitating survivors to enact their legal rights.
This interactive session also brought forward real-life case studies for discussions and allowed counsellors to discuss their current issues in which further advice and solutions were given, based on the law.
In 2013, GVK EMRI in association with the Government of Gujarat and Government of Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Goa established the 181 Women Helpline. This 24*7 helpline, known as Abhayam in the state of Gujarat, is supported by emergency rescue vans with counsellors and female constables. The service has responded to 10.13 lakh calls out of which more than 6.65 lakh beneficiaries have received counselling.
