Donation Drive for A New Initiative

India has made significant progress in recognizing and protecting the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. In landmark judgments, the transgender community was officially recognized as the “third gender,” sexual orientation was recognized as protected under the right to privacy, homosexuality was decriminalized, and same-sex couples were entitled to welfare benefits. Even at present, the Supreme Court is hearing petitions seeking legal validation of same-sex marriages. However, despite these legal protections, the ground realities for the LGBTQIA+ community in India are still challenging.

Conversations around gender identities and sexualities are often missing from everyday discourse in Indian households, and social stigma, guilt, misinformation, and lack of awareness contribute to the challenges faced by the community.

To address this gap, PEC has launched the LGBTQIAWARE (LGBTQIA Awareness with Access to Support, Rights, Entitlements) program. The program aims to promote equality, understanding, and acceptance for LGBTQIA+ individuals in India through awareness programs. These sessions will be conducted in local languages for better outreach and understanding. The organization has also conducted a couple of trainings in the past to familiarize the field persons of community with the subject and challenges faced by LGBTQIA individuals.

While we are pursuing grants to cover as much as possible, the fact remains that we can’t do this without the help of our community. Every little bit helps!
